COVID‑19 Treatments

While we currently have highly effective vaccines that protect against the virus that causes COVID-19, medical research continues to identify effective treatments.

Treatments approved and authorized for emergency use by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) are listed below.

Available COVID-19 Medicines

There are several medications being used for COVID-19.

Preventive Medication:

  • Evusheld (mAb)

Injectable Treatments:

  • Remdesivir
  • Bebtelovimab (mAb)

Oral Treatments:

  • Lagevrio (molnupiravir)
  • Paxlovid

Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) Treatments

Monoclonal antibodies (mAbs)

Monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) treatments are issued by the FDA for emergency use under certain conditions. Currently, mAbs are used for treatment of people who have COVID-19 and:

  • To block the virus from entering your cells.
  • To reduce the severity of disease and incidence of hospitalization.

Antiviral treatments

Different antiviral treatments work in different ways.

Remdesivir (Veklury) is an FDA approved injectable antiviral treatment for adults and pediatrics patients. It is used as a treatment option to reduce the risk of hospitalization in high-risk patients.

  • The FDA recently expanded to certain non-hospitalized (outpatient) adults and pediatric patients
  • OHA currently does not have a role in distributing this treatment

Lagevrio (molnupiravir) is an oral antiviral medicine for treatment of mild-to-moderate COVID-19 disease and who:

  • Have tested positive for COVID-19
  • Are 18 years or older

NOTE: This medicine is not recommended for children or people who are pregnant or breastfeeding

Paxlovid is an oral antiviral medicine for treatment of mild-to-moderate COVID-19 disease and who:

  • Have tested positive for COVID-19
  • Are 12 years and older

NOTE: This medicine is not recommended for people with severe liver and kidney disease, an allergy to one of the medicine’s ingredients, or with poorly controlled HIV infection.

Preventative treatments

  • Preventive treatment for high-risk people who may be routinely exposed to the virus that causes COVID-19.
  • Preventive treatment for people who are immunocompromised or cannot receive the COVID-19 vaccine for medical reasons.

Test to Treat (T2T)

The Test to Treat (T2T) program connects eligible people who are at high risk of severe COVID-19, to treatments. These locations provide access for people to get tested, receive a prescription from a healthcare provider, and fill that prescription, all at one place or have your prescription sent to a nearby pharmacy. Keep in mind, many of the sites, including some Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs), have telehealth capability.

If you are uninsured, have trouble paying for healthcare, or need additional resources, FQHCs listed as Test to Treat are a great option.

The federal government has released the Test to Treat Locator to make it easier to find Test to Treat (T2T) locations. This locator connects folks to T2T sites.

This locator allows you to:

  • Enter the correct address, city or zip code
  • Select the distance from the location entered (in miles)
  • Search locations that include testing, provider visit, and getting the prescription filled (T2T)
  • Search pharmacies to fill a prescription

IMPORTANT: Please check the locator often as sites continue to be added.

"The Test to Treat locator can also help you find pharmacies near you to fill your COVID-19 antiviral prescription. When searching for pharmacies, enter your city or zip code and select, "Locations to fill a prescription" to view local pharmacies.”

Free Oral Antiviral Telehealth Service

The Oregon Health Authority has partnered with Color to offer free telehealth visits in Oregon. This service will help to determine whether COVID-19 oral antiviral treatment is right for you.

Before calling or visiting the Color website please consider the following:

  • These medicines may not be right for everyone. In some cases, a health care provider may need to do labs in order for you to safely be prescribed treatments. For this reason, we encourage everyone to call or visit your health care provider first if you develop symptoms or test positive.
  • If you do not have a healthcare provider or can’t get an appointment quickly, then consider visiting a Test to Treat center. You can find Test to Treat sites here or click Test to Treat. If there are no Test to Treat sites near you or if you can’t get to one, please make a telehealth appointment with Color
  • Color health offers free telehealth appointments to determine if you are eligible for a COVID-19 oral antiviral treatment. If you can’t use this service and don’t have a healthcare provider, Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs) may be another option.
  • Many Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs) can test, assess, prescribe, and dispense a COVID-19 oral antiviral all in one visit for little to no cost. They are a great option for individuals that may need additional assistance or accessibility accommodations who do not have a health care provider. You can find participating Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs) on the Test to Treat locator at the link above. Just look for sites that say “HRSA supported health center” or refer to our monthly newsletter, found below on our webpage, for a list.

Is telehealth right for you?

To start the free visit with Color, use your smartphone or a computer to go to:

  • color.com/covid-19-treatment or click Start your telehealth visit
  • If you do not have a smartphone or computer, you can also call the hotline at 833-273-6330

Telehealth hours are 8:00am to 8:00pm PST, 7 days a week.

If treatment is prescribed by a clinician during your telehealth visit, you can choose to have your prescription delivered within 24 - 48 hours or made available for pickup at a local pharmacy.

COVID-19 Therapeutics Locator

The federal government released the COVID-19 Therapeutics Locator that shows public locations receiving the available COVID-19 therapeutics. The locator shows places near you that have these medicines and can help guide you when having conversations with your healthcare provider.

Please consider the important notes below when using this locator:

  • These medicines are intended for those who are at high risk for severe illness from COVID-19
  • You must be evaluated by a healthcare provider to make sure you are eligible for these medicines
  • Sites drop off and are added to the list frequently, so there is not a guarantee of availability
  • The locator includes specialty sites that may not be able to serve everyone
  • Please allow your healthcare provider to contact sites to verify availability
  • This locator is not the same as the Test to Treat (T2T) locator
